Cheer Up Cambridge
Where or where has the humour gone? That question is currently being asked over at the Cambridge Times after an article by James Haggerty has gotten some people a little upset. It seems that they were bothered by a story he wrote about Dogs and another about Cat’s, two totally humorous pieces that most of the readers seemed to have missed the point on. And they have jumped on him like a dog on a bone, oops, maybe stereotyping dogs will upset them as well so I shouldn’t say that should I. But after all are not dogs just people with short legs wearing fur coats? Maybe it is something here on the far side of the 401 ,Mr.Haggerty is after all from Hespeler, but i find it necessary to look at life in a total funny way and there is nothing wrong with doing that. There is joy and laughter in anything and sometimes it is important to step back and laugh at all the silliness in ones life. Another Hespeler resident Robert Wesley has published at the Times what i think was a great reply and is well worth the read

Cambridge the Bad?
Candidates signs being vandalized and stolen, bullying in schools a big issue, religious debates between Christians and Muslims, racism being used more often and an all around belligerent attitude, sounds like problems in a big city like Toronto does it not? Well, think again, it is here in our backyard in lovely old Cambridge. All you have to do is read any of the online "papers" that are based here in town, the Cambridge Times, Cambridge Advocate and even here we read about incidents and read what people have to say, and can come to a simple conclusion..we have lost the respect for each other that once made Galt,Preston and Hespeler a wonderful area to live. Tom Speed wrote an article at the Times about an incident on his Bike that turned into a hate filled few weeks of reply's and counter reply's. Christians and Muslims have been going at each other on line in a totally unproductive way. A Candidate, Gail Moorhouse has had many of her signs stolen, others have had them vandalized(2 have been stolen from my yard)Donna Reid had to fight for a basic right to campaign and that brought a nasty reply in the Times. Supporters of candidates here and on the Advocate spend more time attacking the opposition than promoting their candidate. Even animal lovers have come under the gun as some in this city want people not to be able to walk their dogs on City streets, and now I find out that one of my neighbors had their Halloween displays stolen last week. This City is getting nastier and honestly i don't like it! But it all starts at the top and our Civic leaders to bring respect and Honesty back to Government before it is too late, and we must do the same.

Racing in the Streets
As we move on from the election the city and it's leaders must focus on what is ahead of us here in Cambridge. there are many issues that await and everyone of course has their own ideas about what is important and i am no different.Among the many issues that i would like to see addressed is the issue of speed in the city, no not the drug but the seemingly increasing need for drivers to go faster on our city streets. Recently in the Cambridge Times a woman wrote about the speeders on Adler Drive, now I live close to Adler and i can tell you that indeed this area of town has a lot of people driving way too fast and something has to be done. Between NewHope Cemetery and Queen Street in Hespeler there are no stop signs and this has almost been a challenge to many to try and see how fast they can go. I have seen some drivers on Franklin Blvd thinking that the speed limit is 100 km's along it while switching lanes at every opportunity. And why do they do this? Basically because the police presence is not there, the lack of Policing in this city is and always will be an issue and until the Region and the City sit down and realize that Cambridge is under served we will continue to have way too much Racing in the Streets and while i do not have a solution to the problem, i and many like myself would be more than willing to sit down with whomever it takes to try and help solve the issue. Until then all we can do is try to take down the speeders license plate and hope they don't cause a fatal accident.

KKK Costume disgusts many in Cambpbellford Ontario.
The doors are closed, the poppy drive is in doubt and Remembrance Day could be wiped off the calendar at the Royal Canadian Legion in Campbellford, Ont., where a man in a Ku Klux Klan outfit, trailing a noose-necked man in blackface, won first prize at a Halloween party last weekend.

As a member of the Royal Canadian legion this story bothers me very much. In this day and age I find it hard to believe that anyone would be stupid enough to dress up in a KKK outfit and someone else would dress up in blackface and pretend that he was not only a slave but was going to be hanged. And the fact that they won 1st prize for their costume is even more appalling. The fact that it happened in a Legion of all places is very bothersome as well. All of those involved need to be investigated and some answers are needed of the participants, but to shut down the Legion was not the answer as the two men involved were not even legion members. Punishing an entire Legion for the mistakes of a few is over reaction and the legion needs to be reopened immediately. Those involved need to be dealt with but don't hold the innocent hostage over the deeds of a couple of Idiots.
